Abstract

Introduction: Safety culture is considered as the core of an organization’s safety management system. Safety culture is an organization ability to achieve higher standards of safety. The aim of this study was to investigate safety culture and its influencing factors and relation to the accident in a dam construction project.

Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 130 workers at a dam construction project. A standardized questionnaire included 59 questions was used to determine the level of safety culture. The accidents occurred in the project during the year were collected based on demographic characteristics. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 19.

Result: The mean age of the subjects, their work experience and score of safety culture were 35.05, 7.5 Years and 183.2, respectively. Twenty seven accidents were recorded during the year in project. The most common cause of the accidents was indiscretions (33.3%). There was a statistically significant correlation between safety culture to occurred accidents and history of accident (P<0.05). The percentage of a positive safety culture of workers with an experience of accident (71.8%) was more than that of those with no experience of accident (45.1%). There was not a statistically significant correlation between safety culture and age, work experience, education, and marital status.

Conclusion: It seems that safety culture on the project is influenced by the experience of accident and also it was strongly significant with the occurred accidents. Consequently, in order to create a positive safety culture in the workplace many factors including safety education program, work experience and accidents analysis should be considered.

Abstract

Introduction: Steel erection is known as one of the most hazardous construction activities. From an occupational health and safety perspective, this process carries high risk. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a qualitative risk analysis of steel structure assembly and model it using the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM).
Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the construction site of a high-rise building steel structure was first visited to identify the main processes involved. Then, semi-structured and open-ended interviews were conducted with 33 workers partaking in this process. Data from the interviews and process identification were entered into FRAM Model Visualiser (FMV) software to investigate and model complex relationships and interactions between daily tasks.
Results: Of the 19 major system component functions identified, four functions had potential instability and defects due to complex human, organizational, and technological function interactions. By intensifying the FRAM graphic model, risks may be imposed on the system if the interactions of these four functions are neglected. These include coordination with the experienced rigger, preparation of the tower crane, attachment of parts at the installation site, and execution of the rescue rope.
Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that conducting qualitative risk assessment and modeling the steel frame construction process using FRAM allows for an in-depth understanding of nonlinear conditions and dynamics resulting from escalating technical-social interactions. This approach enables a comprehensive analysis of system safety status.

Abstract

Introduction: Individual work performance (IWP) plays a crucial role in both organizational effectiveness and employee well-being. To address the limitations of existing job performance questionnaires, the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ) was developed based on a holistic and systematic framework. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian/Farsi version of the IWPQ.
Material and Methods: This descriptive methodological study was conducted in two stages: (1) translation and cultural adaptation (assessment of face and content validity), and (2) psychometric evaluation (assessment of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity). The sample consisted of 206 administrative employees with a mean age of 34.29 years (SD = 7.66) and an average work experience of 8.48 years (SD = 7.39). The IWPQ was translated using forward and backward translation methods, and its validity was evaluated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.
Results: The Persian IWPQ demonstrated acceptable face and content validity. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed a three-factor structure: task performance, contextual performance, and counterproductive work behavior. Confirmatory factor analysis indices (e.g., CFI = 0.87, SRMR = 0.08 and RMSEA = 0.09) indicated a approached model fit acceptability. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were satisfactory across all dimensions (Cronbach’s alpha > 0.70 and ICC > 0.80).
Conclusion: The Persian version of the IWPQ is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing individual work performance across diverse occupational groups. It provides a valuable resource for evaluating workplace interventions and strategies aimed at enhancing performance.
