Author guidline for Extended Abstract for Journal of Health and Safety at Work

In Journal of Health and Safety at Work (JHSW), a full paper and review papers are generally about 10- 15 pages and 25-50 pages, respectively and an extended abstract has long pages from 1 to 4 (Minimum pages between 1-3 pages with figures and explanations). The abstract is generally 200 words for original papers and 300 words for review papers which are a preliminary submission that summarizes the contribution of a paper. There are usually word limits on the length of an abstract are often about 200- 300, substantially shorter than extended abstract words (less than 1600, Minimum 1000 words). The extended abstract includes; Title, Authors and Affiliations, Abstract, Introduction, Experimental procedure or Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment, and References (The numbers of references, tables and figures are up to 8, 2 and 2, respectively based on JHSW format). In fact, the extended abstract and a full paper are nearly the same but the extended abstract tends to be shorter than a full paper. An extended abstract is not simply a long abstract. The extended abstract should contain references, comparisons to related works and other details expected in a scientific paper but not in an abstract. "An extended abstract is a research paper whose ideas and significance can be understood in short time of reading (for 10 minutes). Writing an extended abstract can be more difficult than writing a original paper, so, the extended abstract must be prepared very carefully in English.

Graphical Abstracts in Journal of Health and Safety at Work

A Graphical Abstract (GA) is a single, concise, pictorial and visual summary of the main findings of the article with main scope area. This could either be the concluding figure from the article or a figure that is specially designed for the purpose, which captures the content of the article for readers. Please see examples below. The Graphical Abstract will be displayed in online search result lists, the online contents list and the online article, but it will not be appeared in the article PDF file or print.

Author instructions and Specifications

A Graphical Abstract (GA) should allow readers to quickly gain an understanding of the main take-home message of the paper and is intended to encourage browsing, promote interdisciplinary scholarship, and help readers identify more quickly which papers are most relevant to their research interests. Authors must provide an image that clearly represents the work described in the paper. A figure of general procedure, i.e. a graphical abstract as a separate file, from the original/review paper must be submitted to JHSW as below examples. The GA should be a one-image file and should visualize one process or make one point clear. For ease of browsing, the GA should have a clear start and end, preferably "reading" from top to bottom or left to right. Try to reduce distracting and cluttering elements as much as possible.

• Image size: Please provide an image with a minimum of 531 x 1328 pixels (hxw) using a minimum resolution of 300-600 dpi. If you are submitting a larger image then please use the same ratio (200 high x 500 wide).
•  Font: Please use Times font with a large enough font size as the image will be reduced in size for the table of contents.
•  File type: preferred file types are TIFF, JPG, PNG of PDF files.

INTRODUCTION (Title Times New Roman, 12 font size, bold). Current literature regarding the work subject should be examined and the differences of the said work from the past, similar works should be presented clearly in the introduction section.
METHODOLOGY The methodology must be clearly stated and described in sufficient detail or with sufficient references. The author shall explain the research question, describe the research framework, and the methods applied in detail. It should be furthermore highlighted why the research question is relevant to theory and practice, and why the chosen method(s) are suited for the problem.
RESULT Presentation of the result obtained. If possible, use descriptive figures or tables rather than explain in text. Do not discuss or interpret the results at this stage.
Figures and tables must be numbered. Figures and tables captions must be centered in 12 p.t with small caps. Captions with figure numbers must be placed after their associated figures. Captions with table numbers must be placed before their associated tables.
 
DISCUSSION (this part is selective) Discuss the results. Put your results in perspective by comparing to other studies or generally accepted knowledge in the field. Criticize your own method and results, for example, with respect to the simplifications made.
 
CONCLUSIONS Conclusion should include (1) the principles and generalizations inferred from the results, (2) any exceptions, problems or limitations of the work, (3) theoretical and/or practical implications of the work, and (5) conclusions drawn and recommendations.
